If I lose weight and exercise can I reverse Diabetes?

I had my fasting glucose test done almost 2 yrs ago and it was at 98. I have gained almost 70lbs since then and my fasting glucose test was recently 112. This is definatley a kick in the ass to lose the weight. Can diabetes be reversed with weight loss and exersise. What are foods I should eat more of and less of?

You will not actually reverse it, you will be controlling it. Neither type of diabetes can actually be reversed. You are speaking of type 2 diabetes..and 11% of type 2 diabetics can actually control their disease with diet and exercise. But…when you go off your diet, those high blood sugar reading will come back. Once diagnosed as a diabetic, you are always a diabetic…is does not reverse, or go away. It is simply called controlling the disease. Most type 2 diabetics that can contol with diet and exercise, may be able to do it for many years. But diabetes is a progressive disease, and in time most type 2′s will have to start taking mediction of some kind. It is not their fault, it is just that the disease progresses and the pancreas starts to fail more because it has gotten tired and weak. Make an appointment with a dietitian or a nutritionist for help on your meals. Most will suggest that you learn to count carbs, (easy) and limit your meals to contain no more than 45 grams of carbs each meal, and 2 dailiy in between meal snacks that contain no more than 15 grams of carbs each. Daily exercise like 45 minutes of walking is suggested also. The steps to good control is very simple…it is just not always easy.
