Glycemic Diet for diabetes?

I am trying to control my blood sugar levels without medication. So far, I am 4 days into this and they are coming down. Does anyone know if the Glycemic Diet is good for this? I know this is a lifestyle change for me, not just a "diet" but I am trying to lose weight and keep my sugar levels where they need to be, after I get them there…I am close, soooo close. I just would like to know about the glycemic diet and it’s relation to diabetes/pre-diebetes. Thanks.

  1. Hoosier Mom says:

The two standards for diabetics are food exchange diet and glycemic index diet (newer research), though there’s room for lots of variation in both.

A good place to start would be the American Diabetes Assoc. website, searching Yahoo Diabetes Best Answers, and Google/Yahoo for glycemic index diet (be cautious about whether the site’s reputable or not).

One question – are you working with your doc on this? He/she can refer you to a dietician/nutritionist/other diabetic expert, which will make the process much easier for you.

    Good luck! (:
