Diet Soda cause Diabetes?

Hi, I drink 1 can a day of diet soda unless I don’t feel like it so lets say 6 cans a week… I usually drink Zero coke or Diet pepsi. Does it cause diabetes if i drink this? I have drunk these two for a couple of months and my father says it will cause cancer and i’m asking will it really? or am i fine?

I’m guessing that someone has told you this. It is a common error in thinking.

Here’s the truth….you CANNOT give yourself diabetes by anything you eat or drink. Many people may tell you that you can, but they are wrong. Diabetes is a metabolic disorder, and occurs when the islet cells in the pancreas stop producing insulin (type 1) or the body can no longer properly use the insulin that it produces (type 2). Diabetes happens when it happens, and NO ONE knows why or how….it just does.

As for cancer arising from the things used in diet sodas, this is a common feature in television health reports. However, if you will listen closely to these health reports, they often talk in complete circles over the course of six months to a year. They will tell you that something is very good for you, and some months later, they will report that this very same thing will kill you. Most, if not all, of them have no clue what they’re talking about. Your dad is correct, however, in letting you know that some of the things used in diet soda are not exactly beneficial to your health, but I don’t really think that one can a day will hurt you. Truth is, soda just isn’t healthy in general, but I don’t think you’re overdoing it.

    Hope this helps.
